Li'l Angels Paulette was born at Li'l
Angels Miniature Donkeys out of our very
first foal crop. She and her sisters
were trained and shown in both halter
and performance, because I only had
girls in my first two foal crops. I
wanted a gelding to train, but I just
didn't have one. I didn't really know at
that time how good the girls were going
to be! I loved Paulette's conformation,
but I never really intended to keep
showing her. She always did very well in
the ring, so we just kept going. As a
result of that we had a lot of
trouble getting her bred. She just would
not take. After three years of trying we
finally did manage it, but her first
foal was transverse (sideways). We lost
the foal, but the good doctors at A&M
were able to save Paulette. We were
devastated, but Paulette was even worse.
The 2008 Shoot Out show was coming up in
a couple of weeks, and I thought "why
not take her". I thought it would give
her something to do and take her mind
off the loss. She really seemed to enjoy
the attention of getting ready for the
show, so we kept going. She amazed us
by winning 1st in her halter class, and
Reserve Champion Jennet at the
age of 7, and after her recent loss.
She looked great! She also won Reserve
Versatility Champion, behind our own
Little Chief. This girl really has
heart!
Oh, by the way, Paulette finally had her
first foal, shown below. His name is
Sterling, and she adores him.
