Li'l Angels Two Socks was such a cutie
when he was born; everyone thought so! I
was planning to train him to drive when
he was mature, but I really didn't get
to spend much time doing the pre-driving
training I normally do. I was working
with a lot of donkeys while he was
growing up, so I just decided I would
not be in a hurry with him, and we would
get it done eventually. In the meantime,
he lived with Chief. So, you could say
Chief raised him.
I don't know if Chief passed along some
training tips, or if he had some advice
for Two Socks on how to respond to
training, but I just could not believe
how easy this donkey was to train. There
was really not much training to it. I
just asked and he said yes...whatever I
wanted. Since he didn't really have any
early training, I expected him to fall
apart at some point, but he just never
did. He always says YES! I guess he will
always be that way!
The very first time we showed Two Socks
was at the Texas Shoot Out in 2008,
where he won Reserve Pre-Green Champion.
He won a very large In-Hand Trail class
(Pre-Green Trail classes are our biggest
classes in Texas). He was awesome! We
didn't have much time to work with him
before that show. I was planning to just
use it as a beginning schooling show for
him, since we only had abut a month of
training time with him.
I started training him to drive that
fall, and he took to it just like he had
everything else. I never did get to show
him in the cart, personally, because my
friend Missi Webb of Little Rascals
Miniature Donkeys decided she wanted a
performance donkey. Missi had never
shown before, and had not worked with
equines much, so I knew that Two Socks
would be perfect for her. She needed a
donkey that would be very easy, and very
willing. Tow Socks has not disappointed
either of us.
Congratulations to Missi and Two Socks!
We look forward to seeing many more
ribbons and lots of big smiles!
