backstory
When Jerry & I first started our donkey adventure we had no idea what people did with Miniature Donkeys .We thought they were just pets and the proverbial lawn ornament. After ettending a few shows we were enthralled with the performance classes, and what these animals could do. Thus we changed our breeding program so we could have larger, stronger style donkeys to suit our needs. we have definitely come a long way in 14 years.
From the moment we laid eyes on this foal we knew he was special. He is better known to our friends and fellow competitors as "Stubby". This nickname is due to his short tail structure.
Sired by our MGF Husker Pride, Malibar is one of several outstanding donkeys he has produced for us. Unique in so many ways, he is trusting, extremely willing to learn and fearless. Certainly a desirable combination for any performance donkey foal.
Jerry has enjoyed training him, though they have had their moments. Some days I think Stubby is training Jerry. On the other hand, Jerry gives me full credit in the spoiling department. Malibar is totally a people donkey and you can see that the way he draws peoples' attention in funny little ways, including his smiling tactic.
He competed in 9 shows during the 2016 show season, including Kansas Donkey Days, American Donkey Association Show, Ozark Empire Fair, Wisconsin State Fair, Missouri State Fair, Kansas State Fair, Oklahoma State Fair, State Fair of Texas, and finally Arkansas State Fair.
We are extremely proud of this three-year-old since this was his first year competeting in performance classes. He is now facing a new challenge, pairing up with his half sister Rorie for team competition.
We are looking forward to many more years in the show ring with Malibar.
Pegelows have accomplished more then most with Malibar winning NMDA High Point Gelding for the second time!!!!!
